Moldavite Porcupine — Spiky Sculptured Czech Green Tektite | 20–22mm | Premium Form | Zero-Gravity Case

The Porcupine Moldavite is among the most visually spectacular forms of Czech tektite: a piece with an all-over spiky, multi-directional sculptured texture — projections radiating outward from the body of the stone like the quills of a porcupine, produced entirely by the natural forces of atmospheric cooling 14.7 million years ago. This is not a common form. The density and regularity of the spiky texture required a specific set of aerodynamic and thermal conditions during the stone’s formation that most Moldavite pieces never experienced. Available in 20mm and 22mm — the larger, premium size range. Each piece is unique and arrives in a zero-gravity display case.

Available Sizes

20mm, 22mm — measured tip to tip at longest length.

What Is Moldavite? — The Science

Moldavite is a tektite — a natural silica glass formed by the Nordlinger Ries meteorite impact approximately 14.7 million years ago in southern Germany. The impact melted terrestrial rock and ejected it into the upper atmosphere, where individual molten droplets were shaped by aerodynamic forces as they cooled. The porcupine’s multi-directional spiky texture is produced by an extreme version of the same process that creates Moldavite’s standard wrinkled surface: when a molten droplet cools unevenly, surface tension and differential viscosity cause the outer glass to fracture and project outward in multiple directions simultaneously, creating a radiating, quill-like surface. This requires a specific combination of droplet size, rotation, and cooling rate that produces the porcupine form only rarely. Moldavite is found only in the Czech Republic and is one of the rarest gemstones in the world by geographic restriction.

The Porcupine Form — Radiating Energy

In crystal healing traditions, the multi-directional spiky form of the porcupine Moldavite is associated with omnidirectional energy radiation — the projections pointing outward in all directions simultaneously create an energetic field that extends equally in every direction, making this form particularly effective for space clearing, protective energy fields, and broadcasting high-frequency energy into the surrounding environment. The porcupine’s ancient wisdom symbolism — an animal that carries its protection with it at all times — aligns naturally with Moldavite’s protective and transformative properties.

Metaphysical Properties

  • Heart Chakra (Anahata) — opens the heart to cosmic love, deep transformation, and soul-level connection
  • Omnidirectional protection — the radiating spiky form broadcasts protective energy in all directions; associated with full-spectrum aura shielding
  • Space clearing & energy broadcasting — particularly effective as a room piece; the multi-directional projections radiate Moldavite’s high-frequency energy throughout the surrounding space
  • Transformation & spiritual depth — Moldavite’s core property; accelerates spiritual evolution and access to cosmic wisdom
  • Astral travel & higher connection — used for deep meditation, astral projection, and communication with higher self and master beings

Historical & Cultural Significance

Moldavite has been used by humans for over 25,000 years. Neolithic peoples of central Europe prized it for amulets and tools. It is the national gemstone of the Czech Republic and one of the most collected metaphysical stones worldwide. The porcupine form — with its exceptional sculptural complexity — represents the top tier of natural Moldavite morphology and is among the most sought-after forms by serious collectors. Genuine Moldavite is increasingly rare as Czech deposits are depleted.

Care Notes

Natural glass (Mohs ~5.5). The spiky projections of porcupine-form pieces are the most fragile part of the stone — handle with particular care and avoid contact with hard surfaces. Store in the included zero-gravity case. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners. Genuine Czech Moldavite — natural and untreated.
