Larimar Pendant Heaven Cross Sterling Silver
Faith, carried in stone. The Larimar Pendant Heaven Cross Sterling Silver features a natural, untreated Larimar gemstone polished into teardrop and round cabochons set within a sterling silver cross charm. Measuring 2 x 1.4 inches, the stone displays Larimar's signature blue and white patterning. Natural pits and inclusions may be present, as is characteristic of authentic, untreated Larimar. Each pendant is unique.
What Is Larimar
Larimar is a rare blue variety of pectolite (NaCa2Si3O8(OH)) found exclusively in the Barahona region of the Dominican Republic — one of only a handful of gemstones with a confirmed single-locality origin.
- Blue coloration: Produced by copper ions (Cu2+) substituting for calcium in the pectolite crystal lattice — occurring only under the specific volcanic and hydrothermal conditions of the Barahona deposit
- Formation: Copper-rich hydrothermal fluids intruded into basaltic volcanic rock approximately 65-75 million years ago in the Sierra de Bahoruco mountains near Los Chupaderos, Barahona Province
- Mining: Worked almost entirely by hand by local Dominican miners using artisanal methods unchanged since the 1970s
- Treatment: Natural and untreated — no dyes, coatings, or enhancements; the blue color is entirely natural
The Cross Setting
The cross transcends any single religion — representing the intersection of the earthly and the divine, the human and the heavenly. Set in genuine sterling silver (925), the cross charm frames the Larimar cabochons at its center and base, making the stone's natural blue-white patterning the visual and energetic heart of the piece.
Metaphysical Properties
- Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) — one of the most powerful stones for clear, calm, authentic communication; supports speaking truth with compassion and confidence
- Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) — activates inner vision, intuition, and access to higher wisdom
- Crown and Higher Realms — the cross form amplifies Larimar's connection to higher guidance and spiritual elevation; a talisman for keeping faith active in daily life
- Heart Chakra (Anahata) — soothing blue energy opens the heart to love, forgiveness, and emotional release
- Mental relaxation and stress relief — one of the most consistently recommended stones for calming an overactive mind; associated with deep, effortless calm
- Atlantis Stone — known in crystal traditions as the Atlantis Stone; Edgar Cayce predicted the discovery of a blue Caribbean stone connected to Atlantis; working with Larimar is understood to access Atlantean wisdom and past-life memories
- Faith and spiritual protection — the cross combined with Larimar's sky-blue energy creates a wearable symbol of trust in the higher order of things
Historical and Cultural Significance
- Pre-Columbian awareness — the indigenous Taino people of the Dominican Republic were likely aware of the blue stone in the Sierra de Bahoruco mountains
- 1916 — Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren petitioned the Dominican government for permission to mine a blue stone he had found in the mountains; the request was not acted upon
- 1974 — modern rediscovery — Miguel Mendez and Norman Rilling rediscovered Larimar on the beach at Barahona; Mendez named the stone combining Larissa (his daughter's name) with mar (Spanish for sea)
- Today — Larimar is the national gemstone of the Dominican Republic and one of the most sought-after Caribbean gemstones worldwide

Care
Larimar has a Mohs hardness of 4.5-5 — softer than quartz; handle with care. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals, perfumes, and lotions. Remove before swimming, bathing, or exercising. Clean with a soft, dry cloth; if needed, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Store separately from harder gemstones to prevent scratching. Polish sterling silver with a silver cloth as needed. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners.
